Thimerosol Remedy and Autism Recovery

"It was asked recently, why we homeopaths don’t just begin all our cases with (homeopathically prepared) Thimerosal, in children who we know were harmed by vaccination and had received Thimerosal in vaccines.

First of all, did anyone notice that the article that appeared in Homeopathy Today about using potentized Thimerosal, reported on one, single, “select” case? (Oct 2005 pgs 38-39). The author admits that “subsequent administrations with other children in similar situations rapidly taught me that it is not a panacea for autism spectrum disorders or vaccine injury.” That’s right, it is not. He goes on to say, “This was clearly a highly fortunate case . . .of beginner’s luck.”

In answer to the top question, I say: because to give a “remedy” such as potentized Thimerosal (or DPT, etc), simply based on the supposition that these are the things that caused the illness, is not good or true homeopathy. Only addressing one etiological factor can lead to superficial treatment, and using such remedies will never address miasms (the real cause of all disease). Homeopathy is not that simple! Do we cure Arsenic poisoning with homeopathic arsenic? Believe it or not, no. Look at the rubric in the repertory, Arsenicum is not even there. Another example is asthma caused by mercury exposure; Aurum is the remedy in the rubric, not mercury (Mercurius).

About Isopathy, Hahnemann says: “To try to cure in this way, with an exactly identical disease agent, runs counter to all common sense and all experience. . .” (The Organon, Aph 56)

Now, crude Isopathy—treating disease with products of the disease-- is dangerous without the principle of the potentized remedy (made dynamic and immaterial). Once an isopathic substance is potentized, it becomes a homeopathic agent, and should be used according to the cardinal principles of homeopathy. (Nosodes, like Medorrhinum, made from disease substance, are not isopathic but homeopathic because they have been proven and are prescribed on the totality of symptoms.)

The use of a nosode or vaccine in potency is homeopathic when integrated into proper constitutional case management. That is to say, when a remedy is not clear or there is a block, they may be used intercurrently. For example, if Silica is indicated for convulsions since the DPT vaccine, but it fails to work, potentized DPT may be employed based on causality, to remove the block, to allow the indicated remedy – the remedy whose symptom picture is the most similar to the complete symptom picture of the patient – to work. Such “intercurrent” remedies have a limited, not curative, role in true homeopathic methodology (unless when they are given based on totality of the characteristic symptoms—then they become the constitutional simillimum.) This fact was/is upheld by many Master Homeopaths.

“Pseudo-homeopaths use intercurrent remedies (which cannot cure by themselves) in an isopathic manner. They give nosodes mechanically by allopathic concepts of etiology and antidotal medicine. This always entails the risk of suppression, over-medication, and disruption of the natural disease picture. Hahnemann insisted on a true totality of symptoms, including a time-line, so that fundamental causes and symptom layers are understood.” (Achieving and Maintaining the Simillimum, Luc De Schepper, MD, PhD, DI Hom., CHom., Lic.Ac, pg 130). The key here is that the FUNDAMENTAL cause must be addressed, not the superficial cause. Addressing only superficial causes leads to superficial treatment, and as you can see, that’s risky.

As to the future of homeopathic Thimerosal, the author of the Homeopathy Today article, Peter J. Prociuk, MD, says he believes it could prove useful, “once its symptoms are more fully understood. Unfortunately, my circumstances do not allow for a thorough proving.” For now, it remains to be an inadequately proven remedy, with questionable usefulness.

Homeopathy is a science, and a science is not based on trends or changing times. (Allopathy is truly unscientific, and that’s why we see trends in medicine, and forever-changing methods and treatments.) The laws of Homeopathy by their nature can never change. Yes, I’ve seen autism cured – through this wonderful science, applied as Hahnemann directed.
